SMETA audits follow ETI Base Codes developed by ILO. SMETA audits are conducted SMETA -2 Pillar and SMETA -4 Pillar audits. A SMETA 2 Pillar audit comprises of Labor Standards and Health & Safety with additional elements of management systems, environmental assessment (shortend) and SMETA 4-pillar audit comprises of Business Ethics and Environmental assessment (extended) alongwith elements of 2 Pillar audits. SMETA audit protocols envisages facilities to implement best practices in work conditions.

URS, therefore, conducts SMETA audits of factories of SEDEX member Brands, Buyers and Suppliers across the globe to ensure labour, health and safety, environmental and business ethics requirements are met. URS is able to conduct both SMETA 2 Pillar and SMETA 4 Pillar audits. SMETA audits performed worldwide by URS are designed to be accepted by all Sedex members.
