  4. Safety Valves and Controls:
    • Ensuring that pressure relief valves, temperature controls, and safety devices are functioning properly to prevent overpressure or overheating.
  5. Piping and Connections:
    • Inspecting all associated piping, valves, and connections for leaks, corrosion, or blockages.
  6. Insulation and External Condition:
    • Checking the insulation around the calorifier to ensure it is intact and efficient, as well as inspecting the external condition for any signs of degradation or damage.
  7. Electrical and Control Systems:
    • For electrically controlled calorifiers, the inspection will include the electrical panels, wiring, and control systems to ensure they are functioning as intended.

  2. Earth Continuity Test:
    • For appliances with an earth (ground) connection, the earth continuity test ensures the grounding path is intact and provides a safe route for any stray electricity.
  3. Insulation Resistance Test:
    • Measures the resistance of the appliance’s insulation. This test ensures that the insulation is not deteriorated, which could lead to electric shocks or fires.
  4. Polarity Test:
    • Ensures that the live (active) and neutral wires are correctly connected in the appliance’s plug. Reversed polarity can be hazardous.
  5. Functionality Test:
    • Verifying that the appliance is operating properly (e.g., turning on and functioning as intended) to ensure there are no internal faults.
  6. Leakage Current Test:
    • Checks for any leakage of current from the appliance, which could present a risk of electric shock.

Importance of PAT Testing:

  1. Safety:
    • PAT testing helps identify electrical hazards in appliances before they lead to electric shock, fires, or other accidents.
  2. Legal Compliance:
    • Many regulatory frameworks (e.g., Health and Safety at Work Act in the UK) require that electrical appliances in the workplace are regularly tested for safety.
